Yellowhammer Band receives unprecedented Sweepstakes Award
Tuesday, April 18 The Rotan Yellowhammer Band attended the region 6 UIL Concert and Sight Reading contest at Abilene Cooper High School. At this contest bands play 3 pieces on stage (concert) and then go to another room and play a piece they have never seen before (sight reading.) The 6 judges give the bands a rating of 1-5 with 1 being the superior rating. Rotan received first division ratings in both concert and sight reading. Because the band also earned 1st division ratings at their UIL marching contest in October they received what is called a Sweepstakes award. Only four 1A bands in the state of Texas received a sweepstakes award this year! This is also the first time Rotan ISD has been awarded sweepstakes two years in a row. Mr. Bailey would like to thank the community and school for their continued support and hopes to see everyone at the spring concert!
