Band - UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Contest
02/27/2017
Saturday, February 25th, 16 students from the Rotan Yellowhammer Band attended the UIL Region Solo and Ensemble Contest at Abilene High school. The students performed in 4 different groups including a clarinet quartet, flute quartet, saxophone quartet, and a brass quartet. Citlali Perales also performed a flute solo. Small group pieces are very valuable for the development of young musicians. They get to work as a group to put a piece of music together on their own working through through tempo changes, individual entrances, and tuning within their small groups.

All four quartets received a superior first division rating and our flute soloist, Citlali, also received a superior first division rating. This means that we took home 17 1st division medals from this contest. It could not have turned out any better!

The students are able to choose repertoire from 3 different levels that are listed on the UIL Prescribed Music List. Level 1 being the most difficult of pieces. Our brass quartet was the only group to perform a level 1 piece which has now qualified them for the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest in Austin Tx. We will be taking their group down May 29th to represent our school and band program.

We are very proud of the continuous hard work and dedication that our students in the Rotan Yellowhammer Band put forth at every competition they attend. Congrats to all of them!
